Photography

Photography used to be a lot harder when film was king. Now almost everyone has a camera – sometimes lots of cameras – and can take umpteen shots while perfecting the craft.

But cheap cameras and instant results don’t equal good pictures. Consider composition, lighting, depth of field and digital noise. Interior photography needs to consider the issue of verticals (that’s where all walls are vertical, not sloping inward or outward.)

We love photography, but we’re not precious about it. If it’s a straightforward job then we say so. Simple photography shouldn’t be expensive. We find it most peculiar that so-called “architectural photographers” can still convince clients to pay thousands for a sequence of shots when new technology and techniques can deliver the same results at a tiny fraction of the cost.

Most of the photos we take – including all our panorama images – are shot using a technique known as “high dynamic range“. The gist of that technique is that you try to replicate what the human eye sees by taking multiple exposures of the same scene and blending them together.

We are always at work on photos. Some of the things we do include: crop, filter, clean, restore and enlarge. We can make new photos look old, repair and enhance old photos, or do a “makeover” on portrait images. It requires a subtle touch. ( Artists who go too far can be found at the amusing “Photoshop Disasters” website. )

We specialise in wide-angle photography, panoramas, neutral density long exposure, multi-shot time lapse and HDR.
